  1. Hello, I am looking for a song. I don't know the movie or the title of the song. The only thing I can remember about the song is that it was by a female and it had a theme about her life being like a "Kati Patang". I think its from the late 60's or early 70's. It is not from the movie "Kati Patang". I have searched and can't find the song. If any one can help me that would be great. Thanks Sami

    1. Hi, I saw this only now, I'm sorry. My first instinct when you mentioned the theme of the song was of course Meri zindagi hai kya ek kati patang hai from Kati Patang but that is a Kishore solo. Off-hand I cannot remember a song such as the one you mention, but if I do, I will post it here...

    2. The same song was sung by Lata too as a solo in the same movie.

    3. Hi Saee,

I know that; Meri zindagi hai kya ek kati patang hai had a Lata version as well, but the OP says it is not from Kati Patang. So then, which film can it be? And which song is it?

    4. I came across Piya main hoon patang tu dor from Ragini (1958). Does not mention kati patang, just patang.

    5. But apparently, the poster is looking for a song that says she's a kati patang which argues that the song is a sad one. (I mean, I can't imagine anyone singing about kati patangs in a romantic duet, no?)

    6. The song from the Rajesh Khanna- Asha Parekh starrer runs like this. 'Na koi umang hai, na koi tarang hai, meri zindagi hai kya, ik kati patang hai'. Only one version in the movie sung by Lata Mangeshkar and filmed on the heroine Asha Parekh. It is very popular and known, how come you never found it !

    7. For some reason, I kept thinking of 'Na koi umang hai' as a Kishore solo! And the original poster said it wasn't from Kati Patang. So I'm still lost!

    9. Hmm... no, I can't. Can you? Or do you just come along to complain? Why don't you find the song if it is that easy?

  6. Hi Anu
Following this blog from not so long, but now I am addicted to it.The segment I like most is the "My favourites".
I would like you to make your list of year wise top 10 favourite songs ie, your favourite songs of year 1950, 1951 and so on. You can further divide into best male solos, best female solos best duets like that.
Just a sincere suggestion, decision is yours.

    1. Thank you, Atif. I'm so glad you like the segment. I take a lot of effort to see that they are representative of the themes I choose. As for your suggestion that I make a '10 favourite songs of each year' list, I humbly suggest that it would be an almost impossible task, especially in the golden years. I'll keep it in mind, however, and see if it is feasible.

  7. Hi, An old Hindi song, in female voice, with lyrics like "Phirte rahinge dilwale teri galion mein" in or around the beginning; and something like "yeh to jawani ka nasha hai, zaroor hai" somewhere in the middle is haunting me since many years. No search combination could help me. The song is probably in Bhairavi. Any idea from anybody?

  8. Hi, I too am searching for a song who lyrics are "Ho gaya barbaad mohabbat jatane me, Ji nahi lagta ab zamane me". I dont know who the singer is but I used to listen to this song in my childhood on Vividh Bharathi way back in 1970s. 12. Hi I'm looking for a song. Don't know name of it just some lines.
"Ek ratho jahaa, ey Shaam sundharee, ek lambee line laguvaathee Hoon. Maaf karlo ji beautiful Rani, hungama Hoon deevano ki ek lambee line lag vaathee Hoon"
By the way I'm not from India so the spelling might not be correct.

    1. I have no idea! :) When I read the first line, I thought it would be an old song, but with 'beautiful rani' and 'ek lambi line' I'm assuming it is a song from a new(-ish) film?

  14. I have heard many wonderful songs of Mukesh for Dilip Kumar. Is it true that Dilip did not want Mukesh to sing Suhana Safar (Madhumati), but wanted Talat or Rafi as he had fely that Mukesh is 'besur'? But, Salil insisted Mukesh and told Dilip to just listen the song and decide. Dilip agreed for Mukesh, as anybody would have looking at the quality of singing.

    1. Yes, Dilip Kumar did want Talat Mehmood since he had become 'Dilip's voice'. And I must say that Talat suited Dilip's speaking voice very too. But Salilda wanted Mukesh, and from what I've read, Mukesh too approached Talat, who very generously stepped back.

  15. Hi, I had a question. Other than her appearance in Reshmi salwar kurta jali ka, did Minoo Mumtaz have a role in Naya Daur? I'm making a post on her, and since I haven't seen the movie, I wanted to make sure that she didn't have a substantial role in the movie.
